When you reach middle age, you begin to reflect upon your life. Perhaps it is because the end seems much closer than the beginning, and you want to take stock of what you did well and where you went wrong.
For some this reflection may be in terms of what they have accomplished in their work. For others it may be in terms of what kind of a person they have become. Still others may want to reflect on how they can improve their life going forward. Some will view improvement in terms of getting more recognition and material things. Others will see improvement in terms of how they live their life; that is, how they treat others.
I have been reflecting on the kind of person I have become, and how I can be more compassionate for others. For me, it comes down to the question: How can I become a better human being?
This is a weighty question, and sadly one seldom asked by the young. They are too preoccupied with discovering all of the various things, good and bad, that life has to offer. This is not a criticism; that’s just the way it is. Besides, you have to live a good bit before you have sufficient context to decide what you value most in life.
Anyway, I have been on a journey, and like many, I have made a lot of wrong turns along the way. Realizing this, I am searching for a better path to follow. My contributions to this blog are a discussion of my journey, and the realizations and epiphanies I have had along the way. I have no expectations that anything I say on this blog will influence or change anyone’s beliefs or thinking.
I live in South Florida,USA. I have a son, a daughter, and four grandchildren. My work career began as a university professor and lab scientist in the field of cell biology. Presently, I am a university administrator and part-time college professor teaching biology. My creative side is expressed through fine art photography, music, and dabbling in digital painting.
I would describe my religious beliefs as pantheist. I have an appreciation and respect for all religions and the many commonalities they share, but subscribe to none, believing all worship the same God or universal energy. I see organized religion as a man-made construct, and like man himself, highly flawed. I prefer to focus on my personal connection with God without the limitations and distractions of rituals, and traditions.
I consider myself to be spiritual, but not in the manner of the spiritualist church. Rather, spiritual in the sense of feeling a close connection with God and all of creation.
I am in the early stages of development as a natural born healer. Lorraine has graciously welcomed me into her fold, provided invaluable guidance and support, and encouraged me to chronicle my spiritual experiences and inspirations as a guest on this blog site. I am most grateful for the opportunity.

Blair, This is the same thing I am going through now in my life. Reflecting. I love helping people but I am not a healer. I am a natural born medium and my goal in life is to make other people feel better. Even before I knew I was a medium, I loved helping people. Listening is so important. Love your articles. Keep them coming.
Blair, you are one of the most spiritual people i have come across for a long long time and your contributions are always so wonderfully expressed and full of meaning.
My blog would feel empty without your presence here now and I can’t thank you enough for the wonderful articles you continue to send.
I am not alone in feeling this and just wish more people would express their feelings on here for you to see instead of in e-mails and on my Facebook page where you can’t see it. You are much loved and appreciated by many on here now, so please don’t leave us anytime soon. xx
